Raymond Domenech participated in the first edition of the “Celebrity Tournament”, organized by the Lagardere Paris Racing and the Imagine Institute. At the microphone of Vincent Gallie, the former coach of the Blues spoke about this new sport that he loves.

A fun discovery

“It’s a spectacular sport and very pleasant to play, because even with a very average level, you can have fun. There is a playful side which is the essence of sport at a certain age. I heard about it because many “football players” got into it, and I asked them “what is it?” ". One day, I had the opportunity to try it with some friends. We quickly get the hang of it and it allows us to play. I really started a year ago, playing once or twice a month. It is truly a pleasure and a hobby. »

Le padel, a supplement for football players?

“I see a link in relation to trajectories, to anticipation. Attackers often have this on second balls. The trajectory is not linear, it can be deviated, you have to anticipate rebounds! You shouldn't chase the ball, and that's a good thing for footballers. »

Tennis and padel, the same physical fight

“It’s the surface that makes the difference. I often play on clay and I don't have calf or knee problems. In tennis as in padel, we trample a lot, we are always in contraction and rarely relaxed. But it can't damage your knees more than certain sports. »

An activity that brings together former athletes

“Athletes get started very quickly and enjoy it, because it takes them out of their normal environment. We are not in a competition, we come to have fun. They also have the physical skills because at 35, we are still in good condition! »
