The Puente Romano in Marbella vibrated this Friday during the second day of the Reserve Cup. With a packed house the spectators witnessed what was billed as “the match of the century” : Ale Galán and Arturo Coello face Agustín Tapia and Juan Lebrón.

Galán and Coello dominate the duel of the giants

They were the last four world No. 1s to be on the same court, and the match did not disappoint. In an intense match, the power of Coello and the solidity of Gallant ended up winning 7/5 6/4.

Despite some strokes of genius from Wall et Lebrón, the Spanish-Argentine duo gave in during the heated moments. A defeat that reopens the debate: what would these new combinations be worth if they were to continue on the official circuit?

Respect and admiration on the track

Beyond the result, the match gave way to great mutual respect. Gallant declared: “There is always admiration between us. These duels make us better.”
Coello, he savored the experience: “Playing in front of a full stadium and in this format is a real motivation. It was a match everyone was looking forward to.”

Lebrón under pressure, Tapia in the window

Often criticized in recent months, Juan Lebrón had a golden opportunity here to show his level in the company of some of the best current players, Agustín Tapia. While he delivered some great sequences, he struggled to contain the power of Coello in the diagonal. Tapia, for his part, showed why many consider him the most talented player on the circuit.

A laboratory of unique duets

The Reserve Cup allows us to imagine new scenarios. We have seen Gallant associated to paul cardona, or the upcoming duo Coello / Nieto face Tapia / YanguasLuxury associations that fuel speculation.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
