Let's do some fiction. What if we started to dream for once. What if Roger Federer took up padel. A player totally built to hurt in this sport cousin of tennis.
Indeed, he is a net cat, he has already shown how to get by at squash, in addition to being a huge tennis champion.
His style of play seems to fit perfectly with what it takes to be a great padel player. The Swiss has all the characteristics to become an incredible padel player: reflexes, smashes, volleys, half-volleys, defense, ball touch... He is also an Olympic doubles champion so he is already used to sharing the court with another player. Everything seems already written in him to do something great in padel!
Be careful, being excellent at tennis does not necessarily mean being excellent at padel. It takes training, adapting to the size of the court, the windows, always playing with a partner, the specific tactics of this sport, etc.
But in the women's category, we see former tennis players achieving great results on the WPT. This is of course the case for Marta Marrero, a former professional tennis player who notably reached the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros. To a lesser extent, our French players Alix Collombon and Léa Godallier were doing very well with the big racket before getting into padel and quickly experiencing some success.
In the men's competition, it's not the same story. Of course, good tennis players can quickly become good padel players. Miguel Semmler or even Benjamin Tison are good examples of rapid success on the WPT circuit. But we have never seen a former tennis star become a world padel star so far. It may not be too late!
Obviously, at Roger's age, the window is getting smaller and smaller. He would have to have been training in secret for a few years already. In any case, if tomorrow Roger were to seriously get into padel, the media coverage around this discipline could be enormous!
Croatian Ivan Ljubičić consultant for Roger Federer and friend, said of Roger that he was interested in padel even if for the moment he wanted to devote himself 100% to tennis.

Alexis Dutour is a padel enthusiast. With his training in communication and marketing, he puts his skills at the service of padel to offer us articles that are always very interesting.
