The Rotterdam P1 tournament has already started for the men, and only the pairs Vives/Cremona and Guichard/Geens managed to cross the first round of qualifications. We could have had another Frenchman in the running with the match between Leygue/Piotto, who came very close to creating a surprise against Quilez/Mouriño, seeded number 3 in the qualifiers. The Franco-Argentine pair lost in three sets: 3/6, 6/3, 7/5.
For Inzerillo/Iriart, the defeat was predictable against the Spanish pair Sans/Gala Sanchez (seeded n°5), in two sets: 6/1, 6/2. Similarly, Bergeron/Melero Bernal did not create a surprise against the seeded n°7, Bueno/Luque, losing 6/2, 6/2. There will certainly be frustration for Moreau/Vera Lopez, beaten in two sets 7/5, 7/5 by Ronco/Perez.
On the other hand, Vives/Cremona won a good match against the Dutch pair Prins/Verwater (Wild Card) in two sets: 7/6, 6/3. The Franco-Belgian pair Geens/Guichard played a perfect match by beating the number 2 seed, the Melendez brothers, 6/3, 6/4. The Spanish pair is currently going through a difficult period, with already a defeat in the first round of qualifying in Madrid (against Leygue/Vera).
Vives/Cremona will have to accomplish a small feat to continue in the Netherlands, as they will face the number 1 seed from the qualifiers, Del Castillo/Vilarino. On the other hand, Geens/Guichard will have a second round within their reach, especially after eliminating the number 2 seed. This is certainly a golden opportunity for the Franco-Belgian pair to secure a qualification for the main draw.
