The women's final Santiago Premier Padel P1 promised between the world number 1, Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría, And the pair in shape of the moment, Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea, seeded number 2. A summit confrontation... which the Chilean weather did not allow to finish.

A well-established rivalry

Before this match, the history of confrontations in 2024 was in favor of Triay / Brea (2-0). Full of confidence, the Spanish-Argentine pair remained on three consecutive titles : Gijon, Cancun and Miami. Two of these victories had been snatched in precisely overturning Sánchez / Josemaría finally.

But the number 1s also had their arguments. Ariana and Paula have never lost three times in a row to the same pair, and they hold a record: they are the players who have won the most P1s on the circuit Premier Padel (6). However, they have not won two consecutive P1s since 2023. In Latin America, their only final played this season was at Mar del Plata man, where they won the title.

An interrupted final

The meeting had kept its promises: Triay / Brea pocketed the first set 6/4, before Sanchez / Josemaria do not get back on track in winning the second set in the tie-break (7/6). Unfortunately, the rain and extreme humidity forced the organizers to suspend the match in the evening. At that point, the two pairs were tied, ready to play a deciding third set.

A final completed or finally suspended?

If we are to believe the terms of the official press release from Premier Padel, the final was considered “completed”, a agreement with the finalist players. However, a slight doubt remains. Indeed, on the official FIP website, the match does not appear to be “over” in the strict sense. This leaves some uncertainty, even if, given the weather conditions and the advanced stage of the tournament, it is very likely that the competition will be closed without further action.
