Few players know padel as well as Sanyo Gutiérrez . If he no longer competes in major titles as before, the Argentinian remains a reference for his reading of the game and his ability to decipher the circuit trends. Invited by the channel Twenty Ten, the “Witch of San Luís” delivered a detailed analysis of the qualities of Arturo Coello and keys to try to destabilize the world number 1.
The tactic repeated against their rivals Chingotto/Galan
During the clashes between Chingotto/Galan et COELLO/TAPIA , a game sequence kept coming back: Coello's high lob on Chingotto , with a quick net climb left-handed or a take position in the middle of the track which gives him the choice of blocking or letting it pass thanks to his great physical qualities.
On the 20 confrontations Between the two pairs, the world leaders emerged victorious 14 times against 6 A revealing statistic.
For Sanyo, the difficulty is clear:
“When Coello lobs, he moves forward because he knows he's not in danger and he blocks almost all options. Chingotto, being right-footed, can only come out in the bandeja and sees his playing area reduced by Coello's rise. And if he plays parallel, Tapia will be able to recover the play and maneuver from the back, as he knows how to do perfectly.”
A pattern already seen with Bela and Juan Martín
The “Mago” reminds us that this style of play is not new. At the time, Fernando Belasteguín et Juan Martín Díaz already used a similar mechanism:
“One provided volume and defense, while the other waited for his chance at the net.”
Against Coello, however, one weapon could change the situation: a left-hander .
“He suffers more against a left-hander, because the latter has more options in his zones with a different angle of hitting the smash. In this case, Arturo has no choice but to take the ball on the volley very often, and Galán can then dominate by intercepting the middle.”
Tapia and Coello: two complementary geniuses
Sanyo does not downplay the talent of the Golden boys , on the contrary. He explains that their domination is based on totally different but perfectly complementary qualities.
- Arturo Coello :
“He's the most practical player on tour. He focuses on three things, but does them perfectly. He's a killer, insatiable. But if there were more left-handers, he'd be in trouble.”
- Agustín Tapia :
“Like Messi, everyone knows where he's going, but no one takes the ball from him. Tapia is the same: he can't be read. He's so easy that he's constantly improvising. He doesn't have a fixed pattern.”
The return of the “Mago” to Madrid
Finally, Sanyo confirmed its return to competition when Madrid P1 , at the beginning of September. He will be associated with Gonza Alfonso , with whom he had already almost created a surprise in Bordeaux against... the world number 1s.
He discovered padel in 2016 in Nantes and quickly became attached to the game, even climbing to 474th place in France.
