Sara Errani, an icon of Italian tennis, is preparing to take a new step in his sporting career. 38 years, the one who was world number 5 in singles and multiple doubles champion, will try her hand at the professional padel, and not just anywhere: at BNL Italy Major of Rome, one of the four major tournaments on the circuit Premier Padel.

A wild card for the main draw

Sara Errani will benefit from a wild card allowing him to enter directly in the main table of the tournament. It will be associated with Giulia Dal Pozzo (100th in the world), one of the best Italian padel players. The duo will have the honor of playing their matches on the prestigious Foro Italico, in a setting as legendary for tennis as it is now for padel.

A transition already underway towards padel

This invitation does not come by chance. Since the beginning of the year, Errani has already played two tournaments on the CUPRA FIP Tour : at Melbourne with Tathiana Garbin, and to Dubai with Caterina Baldi. These first experiences allowed her toenter the FIP ranking, where she currently occupies the 450th place in the world. If his beginnings were discreet, his commitment to discovering this new discipline is very real.

A beautiful tribute from the FIP

During the tournament presentation, Luigi Carraro, President of the International Federation of Padel, welcomed the arrival of Errani:

"It is a great source of pride to welcome an Olympic champion, winner of six Grand Slams in doubles, and two-time defending champion here at the Foro Italico. Giving her a wild card for a Major, the equivalent of a Grand Chelem in tennis, is a strong gesture for the development of padel.

Still active at Roland-Garros

At the same time, Sara Errani is still playing in Roland-Garros doubles. Teamed with Jasmine Paolini, she qualified for the semi-finals, proof that her level remains high despite her age. But the Italian already seems to be looking to the future, and padel could well be her new playground.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
