Stéphane Penso broaches a subject that we do not link directly with the padel, but which has its importance and its influence on our mood and our game: sleep.

Sleeping well, resting is important for our health. Getting up in a bad mood has happened to everyone. What are the keys to a good night's sleep?

Since we spend a third of our lives sleeping, you might as well say that it is not better to skimp on the quality of the bed. An excellent box spring coupled to a mattress (generally with shape memory) will give you an optimal quality of sleep.

Sleeping long helps you get fitter?

You don't have to sleep long, you have to sleep well! A French brand specializes in the sleep sector, and offers "technology for the recovery of athletes". It's Vaudou Sport. This company offers box springs, mattresses and other accessories for the sleep of athletes. And if you visit their web page, you will see that many champions use this specific type of bedding.

Once your sleep pack is installed in your room, there are a few things you need to respect so that your night is as productive as possible:

  • Respect your biological clock by not changing the time you fall asleep and wake up (no or little change is the secret to good recovery).
  • No training in the evening but at the end of the afternoon (it is at this time that our performance skills are better).
  • Do not hesitate to do a “muscular” training at the end of the afternoon. Falling asleep will be easier and slower deep sleep longer.
  • No overloaded meals, especially protein, in the evening; carbohydrates should therefore constitute the main part of the dinner.
  • Leave two hours, after the end of the meal, without strenuous activity (why not "a digestive walk"?) Before going to bed.
  • Having a “ritual” of falling asleep especially if you have some difficulty falling asleep: reading in bed, soft lighting, sweet verbena-type drink…
  • Never take sleeping pills without medical advice. This treatment does not resolve anything in the long term, on the contrary.
  • The room should not be too hot (below 20ºC).

Good rest
