Stéphane Penso is back to dissect the Nox ML 10 Bahia. A new one ML10 that you will find in store under 3 variations.

Today the new racquet from Nox's iconic player, the brilliant Miguel Lamperti, is on the grill.

This new generation ML10 is available in 3 forms : round (under the name of Perto), diamond (called Shotgun), and that of our test, the Bahia (drop of water) of the name of his birthplace.

Between the brand and the player, it is a true love story that began in winter 2010. A decade of alliance and exemplary loyalty have enabled the man with the silver helmet to develop into the best conditions the legendary and immortal ML10 Pro Cup, an avant-garde signature pala that combines comfort, versatility, resistance and power, a real performance for the time.

The collaboration between the factory and the Argentinian gave birth to a dazzling eraser in terms of yield and profit (the HR3), so effective that the construction never evolved for many seasons. Better still, the cosmetics remained on the same color code, namely a white background with the legendary X, in gray and / or gold.

From this partnership was born the famous ML10 Pro Cup, which, since the beginning of the 2010s, has been the most
solid, the most sold, and the one which corresponds to the broadest spectrum of players, from beginner to expert.

This ML Bahia is therefore the logical evolution of the base ML10 after so many years without major upheavals. The fault is too much notoriety for its perfect design, the charisma of Señor Lamperti and the ultra positive feedback from consumers, which have, in a way, slowed down the brand and the innovation that follows.

Today, the fierce competition has been structured, and has been relying for some time on drunk models
technologies, names and registered patents (some sometimes more incomprehensible than others), which forced Nox to rethink the benchmark ML10, by incorporating patents specific to the brand.

Visual

First of all, those who know the original ML10 will be struck by the bridge, which now has a
branch in order to unite the heart (more stability and less vibrations?). The combination of silver, steel blue, orange for the details and carbon fiber is vibrant. The logo, with a multi-colored finish, will change depending on the position and the light it reflects.

The racket is positioned on the Luxury range, elegance is therefore a value given and a variable that must be treated. This pala is a real aesthetic success, but what exactly does it have in the stomach?

Description

First of all, a peculiarity that should be noted on all ML Pro Cups is that they were round in shape.
Small (r) evolution today, the Bahia has a teardrop profile. As a reminder, Miguel Lamperti plays the WPT tournaments with Bahia, and has just finished the Spanish championships with the Perto (round shape).

He is, in my opinion, the only player to have changed format between 2 tournaments. We can see in some players a change of rubber, hard in summer and soft in winter.

What technologies are on board the Bahia?

carbon frames : carbon frame which provides more rigidity and robustness.

DCS (Dynamic Composit Structure): by hitting the ball with the outer areas of the racket, the cuts of the
fibers that can be caused by the flattening of the gum are minimized.

Carbon 12K : obtained by interweaving the fiber threads to form small squares. In the case of the Bahia, NOX uses a 12K fiber having a higher grammage than that of standard carbon fiber to thus endow the product
of greater durability.

Rough surface : rough surface on the last layer of the racket head. This roughness is obtained by means of a pre-molded plastic which provides more effects in the blows.

AVS (Anti Vibration System): on the sides of the frame, in order to minimize the vibrations which are transmitted to the arm.

Our pala

The weight of our racket is 364 grams, for an average balance of 255mm. The fleece / sliding wrist strap is a slip-on treat.

The tussle

As NOX announces, the balance is very good, and it's no surprise that once again, and despite the new teardrop format, the grip is still magical. I was surprised with the handle which I found really short compared to all the rackets I had available. Lovers of backhand with 2 hands, it will get stuck on this side, your slave hand may end up on the deck of the pala.

From the baseline

It is an easy to maneuver, light and balanced racquet that will get you out of very complex situations when
you will be cornered against your plexiglass.

Having less elasticity than before, the Bahia does not generate as much speed as softer racquets in slower shots, so you will have to counterbalance the loss of energy by causing this little extra impulse with the shoulder (for tennis), or the wrist (for squashers). Blame it on the reinforced frame and 12k carbon which make the racket a little stiffer. But rest assured, the unparalleled maneuverability will compensate on defensive shots.

It offers excellent control and the size of the sweet spot is just confusing, which makes this pala
indulgent when the strikes are (largely) off-center.

Regarding the basic baseline shots, no need for correction in real time, it goes straight, the AVS does
wonders, and the comfort is convincing.

On the fly

Of course it is in this part that Bahia excels. The result is final. A brilliant performance and supreme maneuverability characterize this pala which is built around very precise elements, in order to maximize the reactivity, the pleasure and the exit of balls.

You will be surprised at the many possibilities offered by this multi-faceted racquet, it will allow you to release your shots with confidence without losing accuracy and agility.

Smashes

Let's get into the heart of the subject ! As the developer of this pala isn't particularly known for being a kid at heart when it comes to sending strains, it's immediately confirmed after a few par 3 attempts.

The 12k carbon will help players hit hard to generate speed in smashes. The sound, when you bang proudly, hums an exhilarating melody specific to NOX High Resilience erasers.

The test conditions were optimal: new balls of course, 15 p.m., 21 °, no wind, 48% humidity in the air, blazing sun and aniseed drink on the terrace.

Miguel Lamperti being a big hitter, it is obvious that the racket created with his desiderata makes talk powder on bullets taken over the shoulder. To put it simply, you have an ultra exploitable power reserve without losing precision or maneuverability.

These variables allow us to adapt quickly and place us in the best conditions in order to execute the smash which is done most of the time by moving back (unlike the volley being played by moving forward).

It lacks a little head weight to be classified as all-powerful, but you can compensate for this lack by adding a racquet protector (~ 8 grams) or turn to the shotgun (diamond shape).

En conclusion

Why change a winning team?

The brand with more than 100.000 followers on Instagram and the silver-haired player know music to produce quality palas. This ML10 Bahia is the typical example of the racquet that comes out of production with almost zero defects.

The ideally distributed weight, the uplifting handling, the tame power and the absence of vibrations make it
a must have for anyone looking for a racket whose watchword is versatility. A good all-rounder, free from major flaws, it will delight big defenders and / or those who want to hit hard. The perpetual upgrades of the ML range give this model a solid foundation, where the shortcomings have been slowly filled and the benefits actively amplified.

From this partnership came a unique foam, refined to arrive at the perfect rubber, topped with the versatile 12k carbon. Installed in an intermediate / high price range, and for less than 250 €, this racket is a guarantee of safety, of sure value and choosing it is simply common sense.
