Dakhla will have vibrated padel, these four days, with the second edition of the Intercontinental Cup Padel, where several pairs competed on the central track. After several days of tournament, the champions were crowned, at the end of a great journey.

After five years of waiting, Dakhla was able to find the padel, while the project of setting up a club and training center has never been so relevant. Several players from Valencia, Malaga, Casablanca... and even France, came to Morocco, to a central square in the city of Dakhla where a brand new track had been set up for the event.

Great play on the track

Among men, we found Isaac Gomez et Juan Jose Hinojosa, Malaga players, opposed to Ricardo Duarte and… Franck Binisti. A final in three sets, where dozens of locals came to watch, enjoying the show and some very nice exchanges between the two teams. Ultimately, it was the Spanish pair who ended up winning in Dakhla, with a score of 6/4 4/6 6/3.

"There was a 50% chance that we would win. There was a lot of wind, a lot of tension on the track, which made the match very balanced. It was a pleasure playing with Isaac" declared Juan José at the end of the meeting.

For his part, Isaac Gomez still wanted to clarify that it was “a part where we suffered a lot”, which still ended with victory in the final.

In the small final, it was a 100% French pair who were also able to lift the “small” cup. It is Pierre Lamouré et pascal hernandez !

Dakhla also had the right to its champions ! A French pair, composed of Valérie Lamouré et Gwenaëlle Souyri, won his group matches and therefore joined Isaac Gomez and Juan José Hinojosa!

A unique moment of sharing

At the end of the matches, the prize giving ceremony was a real success on the field, while more than fifty locals came to share a moment of conviviality, to the music of the Belfares troupe, always present at every moment of the competition!

This was also a moment of transmission for players and young people from the city of Dakhla, who had the right to a little initiation. A moment particularly appreciated by the winner of the women’s tournament, Valérie Lamouré: “It was a great experience, especially human, which allowed me to meet fantastic people. To discover a new culture and to promote padel with children. The location was well suited to this type of event and the organization was very good, with people who did everything to ensure that this competition took place in the best possible way.."

She finally concludes: “I will come back with great pleasure next year to meet the people I met and continue to exchange with them to, perhaps, give them a taste for padel."

Because yes, a third edition of the Intercontinental Cup Padel is already in the pipeline and we should have news soon. But now, all eyes are on the next deadline: the International Club Cup padel, in Malaga, from October 3 to 6 !

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
