After five consecutive titles, Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello surprised observers at the Pretoria P1. The world number ones initially abandoned the red outfits they had worn since their victory at the Italy Major in Rome, before putting them back on for their second match. A simple sartorial choice? Perhaps. But the gesture did not go unnoticed. 

An exceptional series from Rome

Tapia and Coello's season did not start as expected. They were hampered for a long time by  Ale Galán  et  Fede Chingotto The world ranking leaders saw their dominance falter after several lost finals.

The turning point came at the Italy Major of Rome This first Major victory in 2026 completely reignited their momentum. Since then, the two men have been on a roll.  five consecutive titles  Rome, Valencia, Valladolid, Bordeaux and Malaga, regaining the momentum that had made them the benchmark of the circuit.

A dark interlude… but short-lived

Over the course of this incredible series, one detail had almost become a tradition:  Tapia and Coello consistently played in their red kits .

In Pretoria, the two champions nevertheless caused a surprise by entering the court dressed in  Black This is the first time in several months. A discreet change, but one that did not escape observers, as this red color seemed to accompany their return to the top.

Despite this change of look, the world number ones made a perfect start to their tournament by dominating  Gonza Alfonso  et  Tino Libaak , who were playing their first tournament together, with a score of  6 / 4 6 / 4 .

Red is making a comeback

But this experience only lasted one lap.

For their quarter-final against  Álex Arroyo  et  Jose Jiménez Casas Tapia and Coello brought back their now iconic  red outfit , thus regaining the image that has accompanied them since their Roman coronation.

On the court, nothing changed. After a very close first set won in a tie-break, the world number ones took control of the rallies in the second set to secure the victory.  7 / 6 6 / 2  and secure their place in the semi-finals.

A simple detail… or a real lucky charm?

It is difficult to know whether this return to red is simply a marketing decision, a personal preference or a genuine ritual.

One thing is certain: this color is now associated with Tapia and Coello's best run of the season. And in Pretoria, after a brief interlude in black, the world number ones quickly returned to their usual style… without losing their effectiveness.

They will now try to extend this streak in the semi-final against  Javi leal  et  Fran Guerrero , the tomboys  Juan Lebrón  et  Leo Augsburg , authors of one of the greatest feats of this Pretoria P1.
