On the eve of playing a new final of Major with Arturo Coello, Agustín Tapia has lifted the veil on the injury that slowed him down at the start of the season. The world number 1 revealed that he had suffered a partial rupture of the ligament of the fourth finger of the right hand, which occurred during the final of the Riyadh P1.
"In the final in Riyadh, I made a bad move that partially tore a ligament in the fourth finger of my right hand. After tests, I was forced to stay three weeks with my finger immobilized, so I couldn't do anything," explained the "Mozart of Catamarca."
Tapia had kept silent until then, despite rumors and questions surrounding his physical condition. The defeats at Miami et Santiago had aroused suspicion, but the Argentinian player acknowledged that his return to competition had been gradual, with a significant mental component:
"In Miami, I played with fear. I wasn't in pain, but I was worried. In Santiago, I felt good, but we just took a big slap," he added with a smile.
Since his return to Doha , where he has found his best level, Tapia seems liberated, as confirmed by his partner Arturo Coello:
"He's even better than he was in many moments last year," said the Spanish number 1.
A finale full of challenges
With a possible victory in the Qatar Major, Tapia and Coello could not only take a nice lead in ranking Premier Padel, but also mark their strong comeback after two tournaments without a final. Their last semi-final confrontation against Yanguas/Nieto confirmed this rise in power, and Tapia, this time, said to himself fully recovered and confident :
"Today I'm 100%, I'm very happy to have been able to get through all this. Thanks to Arturo for his support, and to the whole team. Now I just want to play at my best again."
One thing is certain: the Argentine champion is ready, and the public of Doha might well witness his revenge, on all levels.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
