We often hear on the edges of the courts of padel that it is only the “old people” who play this sport, that it is not a sport for young people. But with the pandemic, the situation seems to change. According to the director of Real Club Polo de Barcelona, Eva Gayoso, we are witnessing a massive arrival of players aged 18 to 28.

The manager of this Barcelona club explains that she noticed that before there was a majority of players over 35 years old. And that since the Covid, young people who cannot do their usual sport are coming en masse to the padel. Most of the young people come from a pool of players who were already members of this multi-sport club.

The director had been questioned on the possibility that with the deconfinement this pool of young players could stop playing. She replied that the majority will continue to practice, but perhaps not as much as a player who does not perform any other activity on the side.

In addition, these new young players are eager to learn, and learn quickly. Indeed, RC Polo Barcelona has noticed a sharp increase in individual lessons. A good part of them still intend to participate in tournaments of the FPC (Catalan Federation of Padel).
