All last week, you were able to follow the FIP Rise Bandol, this first edition which was contested, in part, on the city's port. For a moment, we thought that this tournament was the first FIP Rise ladies tournament organized in France… well no! Some people, endowed with the memory of an elephant, remember a tournament which took place almost five years ago, near Angers. It was in November 2019 and it was the first FIP Rise ladies in France.
Padel had not yet taken off and we were only a few months away from the Covid-19 crisis. Angers organized its FIP Rise, with both categories. In the men's category, it was a French pair that won: Johan Bergeron et Jeremy Scatena. They had imposed themselves against Benjamin Tison et Adrien Maigret
In the women's draw, it was also a 100% French meeting that took place. Mai Vo (former 5th French player) and Amelie Feaugas (former French 10th) met Géraldine Sorel et Elodie Invernon. A match which was ultimately won by the Sorel / Invernon pair.
The tournament was a great success. However, the following year, due to the Covid-19 crisis, the tournament had to be canceled. Since then, Angers has no longer hosted this competition.
However, the Mainai town will forever remain the first to host a women's FIP Rise in France. In addition, Géraldine Sorel and Élodie Invernon will be the first French women to win a FIP tournament in France. The inheritance is safe and sound since Jessica Ginier et Carla Toully won the second FIP Rise women's tournament organized in France!
Le FIP Rise Box to Box Bandol is on the other hand the first women's FIP Rise to be played partly in a public square!
It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
