Padel Magazine : Hello Ruben, you are a famous player of padel with a disability, can you tell us your story about padel...

Ruben Castilla: First my name is Ruben Castilla, I am a padel disabled sports professional for 5 years now. I am a player who plays particularly on the left. I know racket sports like tennis well and that helps a lot. Today with my teammate Oscar Ageo, we are world number one. It shows that even with disabilities, even with leg problems, we can practice this sport, have fun and become efficient.

Padel Magazine : You explained to me that the padel was a sport that helped you personally, why?

Ruben Castilla: Very much the padel not only helps you physically, to repair yourself, but it also helps you in everyday life, it also helps you socially. Thanks also to my level, I have an international life. I have the possibility to play with people without barrier of handicap. For me, The padel allows me to be much more operational. With the padel, i have everything I need.

Padel Magazine : Yet you didn't play a lot padel before your accident?

Ruben Castilla: I was practicing before my accident on padel and actually not that bad and I was definitely better. However with my current abilities we have come to be number one in Spain.

Padel Magazine : So we can have fun and play well padel fast enough ?

Ruben Castilla: Yes of course it is possible. But it will take training to acquire a level that allows you to play well. But yes it is an easy sport, accessible. But it is a sport that we must try, because there is such communication in this sport, that it helps to continue and to improve in this sport.

Padel Magazine : Earlier, you told me that there was a very social aspect in padel, can you explain yourself?

Ruben Castilla: Socially the padel can bring many things to people, help them to be made or to be remade. The padel is a game. We play with and against people. It's very interesting. With 4 people, it's obviously much more interesting than playing alone. Being 2, playing with someone in a tight space brings a lot of positive things. You can also play with your family, your wife, your children, your friends… It is very important and makes the difference with other sports that are more difficult to access. We don't smell bad, on the contrary. It's an activity that we do in a group. It is very rewarding.

Padel Magazine : You play with your family at padel as if the handicap no longer existed ...

Ruben Castilla: There are two of us playing against two other people. That's 4, and so it allows you to meet a lot of people, to practice with your family. The handicap disappears. And as a reminder, we are entitled to the two-rebound game which further improves the fluidity in the game. There are a thousand reasons to engage in the game. padel for the non-disabled or the disabled.
