It's not really a surprise the Spanish Federation of Padel (EFF) decided to formalize “El Punto de Oro” for all its competitions from 2022.

This subject had already been under discussion for over a year. Indeed, during a meeting in November 2020, all the presidents of the territorial federations were already in favor of this method of counting points without advantage.

It was finally on December 21, 2021 that the decision was approved by the Delegate Commission of the VET.

A little reminder for the “neo padeleros ”which have not yet heard of this new rule already adopted on professional circuits (FIP / WPT and APT). “El Golden Point“, Gold point in French, is a system which removes the advantages during a game and establishes a decisive point when the score is 40-40. In a mixed match, the receiving player must be of the same gender as the serving player in order to avoid any disadvantage. This method has been integrated into the rules of the game of the FIP.

Controversial in its early days, this decisive point has added a dramatic dimension at the show and often offers high flying points because both pairs give their best on this very important point.

In France a few years ago, the FFT put in place the decisive point before going back and redoing as in tennis.
With this official integration into the VET, could we review “El punto de oro” on our courts?
