Thomas Vanbauce is like in “a dream” with this first selection for the French team to participate in the European Championships Padel 2024 in Italy.

Premier Padel in Bordeaux, perhaps decisive?

“It’s an indescribable emotion, I still can’t get over it. I admit, I'm still a bit like I'm in a dream. I think I'll really realize it when I receive the outfits or we all get together to prepare for these European Championships. Yes, it's a dream.

The day before the announcement, I was stressed. For the little anecdote, with Max Joris, my partner, we sent each other messages to countdown the selection because we had a fixed date and time, but it was postponed several times, which made us got even more stressed. It was very funny.

I don't know if this tournament in Bordeaux tipped the scales, I couldn't really tell you.

I think this tournament showed that, in big events, Max and I are able to play very well under pressure. Maybe that was the little question that arose about us. This tournament was beneficial for us, individually as well as collectively.

We are going to continue to ride this dynamic, we are not going to be idle until Cagliari and we are going to continue to play tournaments to best prepare for these European Championships because the objective is clear: we are going to try to bring back a medal.

“I felt like we were fighting to the nines”

Regarding the selection, I had the impression that nine of us were fighting for eight places. Jérôme Inzerillo had a very good internship, he recently became a father, and we congratulate him again. Unfortunately, he was not selected for these European Championships. He is a great competitor, I am convinced that he will come back strong and that we will be able to count on him during tournaments and potentially at the world championships. But it is certain that at nine, there is one who remains on the sidelines. This time, it fell on him, it could have fallen on me (editor's note. even if Jérome Inzerillo mainly plays on the right and Thomas Vanbauce on the left).

What is certain is that by taking both of us and Max, the coaches know that we work well together. If we were separated, they wouldn't know who to put me with on the right. If Max was taken without me, it would be the same for the left side.

The objective of this French team is to be one of the three best teams, as always.”
