There is only one more step to take to Timéo Fonteny and Yoan Boronad before lifting the trophy P2000 of Spirit Padel. The two players of theNox academy impressed in the semi-finals, imposing themselves with authority against their opponents, Damien Bayard and Thomas Basso. They are now preparing to challenge Max Forcin and Benjamin Tison, tournament favorites. Before this final, they answered questions from Mario Cordero.

A strategy that paid off in the semi-finals

Timéo Fonteny looks back on this remarkable victory: “We had a good tactical plan to hold up these players so many times. They hit very hard, so we had to play tight and low, and when we had the opportunity, lob intelligently. This strategy worked well.”

Yoan Boronad acknowledges some inaccuracies: “I made more mistakes, especially on the volley. We had a lot of games at 40A, and in these conditions, it’s an advantage to have the net. I took risks on some volleys, which cost me a few errors, especially at the start of the second set. Fortunately, Timéo was super solid, which allowed us to go through.”

An interesting confrontation against Benjamin Tison

Both young players are eager to face Benjamin Tison, who has left his mark on French padel in recent years. “It’s strange, because he had announced that he was ending his career, and seeing him back on the field, still so strong, is impressive.”

They are looking forward to this opportunity: “We play very good players in training and in FIP, but a player like Benjamin, top 60 in the world, is something else. He remains in everyone's mind as the former French number 1. It would be a real challenge.”

Timéo Fonteny has clear ambitions for this year: “The goal is to stay in the French adult team and to join the circuit Premier Padel, at least through qualifying.”

They also confirm their total commitment to padel, having stopped their studies in first year to devote themselves fully to their career. “It was a conscious decision, and we believe we made the right one.”

A new racket and a busy schedule

Both players discuss the imminent release of their new rackets. “Our first racket sold very quickly, and a new range is coming in two months.”

Regarding their schedule, “We will follow this with a month of training, then three FIP tournaments in April in Portugal and Spain. We will play together all season.”

Already finalists at Casa Padel during the last P2000, Fonteny and Boronad hope to win the title this time. “We hope to do better this time. Winning a P2000 at 17 would be incredible.”

The final promises to be exciting, with a generational duel between the rising youth and the experience of the favourites. Answer on the pitch.
