The city of Gijón is organizing for the first time the  Gijón  P2 in February 2025. However, the  Boycott of the top 100 male players  tarnishes the image of the tournament. A first edition that could compromise the holding of the competition in 2026.

A first edition under tension. Since Monday, February 24, the  Gijón  P2 started in a climate of  controversy . Because of  new circuit regulations Premier Padel   Top 100 Male Players  decided not to participate in the tournament. On the other hand, the players chose not to  boycott  the event and are well represented in Spain.

First edition of a P2 in Gijon

Located in the region of  Asturias , the coastal city of  Gijón  hosts a major international tournament for the first time. At the same time, in February 2023, the  Ooredoo Qatar Major  was organized. Since 2024, it is the Saudi Arabia  who welcomes the  P1 Riyadh .

In 2024,  five spanish cities  have already received competitions from the circuit  Premier Padel  :  Seville, Malaga, Madrid, Valladolid  et  Barcelona . As for tournaments  FIP , no competition was held in  Gijón  and in 2023 2024.

The organization of  P2 Gijon  therefore represents a  real opportunity  for the city to attract padel enthusiasts as well as  potential tourists .

No pro athletes from Gijon

At the moment, no professional player from  Gijón  does not appear in the  top 20 , both in men and women.

Despite the absence of  best male players , this  international competition  could spark interest among local youth in the  paddle . Who knows? Maybe some of them will join a club and become the  future spanish champions  ! Tickets on sale are available from €20.
