A major change in  settlement  could soon make his return to the circuit  Premier Padel . The  “golden point” , abandoned after the disappearance of the World Padel Tour, could be reintroduced from  2026 . This is the Spanish daily  BRAND  which reveals that the Professional Players Association (PPA)  wishes to organize a  new vote  to rediscuss the game counting system.

A return of the WPT format?

Introduced in 2020 on the  WPT ,  gold point  removes the classic 40A advantage rule. The game is then played on a single deciding point. This shorter and more intense format has long divided players. When Premier Padel was born in 2023, a vote of the players had led to a return to the  traditional system , inspired by tennis. But after several years of experience, some would like to go back.

Tour stars in favor of change

What was unthinkable a few months ago is gradually becoming a fundamental trend.  Paquito Navarro , a major figure on the circuit, says he is in favor of a return of the  gold point . He is not alone:  Martín Di Nenno  et  Juan Lebrón  also support this development.

A proposal put forward by the PPA

Interviewed as part of the  Pro Padel League in San Sebastian ,  Maxi Sánchez  confirmed that the PPA would propose a  new consultation  official at  Premier Padel  :

"We had chosen to return to the traditional format, but now we would like to try a change, to see if it changes the dynamics."

Same story for  Sofia Araújo , who believes that the  gold point  would allow  shorten matches  and intensify the suspense  at every game.

 A debate that still divides

Not all players are aligned.  Tolito Aguirre  or,  Pablo Lijó  prefer to stay on a system with an advantage, which they judge  more equitable  :

"The golden point is more spectacular, but the advantage rule is fairer."

The debate therefore remains lively. But if the FIP accepts the new voting proposal, a  official return of the golden point  could see the light of day as early as this season  2026  on  all professional tournaments  :  Majors, P1, P2 ...

 What's Next ?

In the meantime,  the current rules will remain unchanged until the end of 2025 . The golden point only applies today in certain alternative competitions such as the  Pro Padel League  or  Hexagon Cup .

But the subject has now been raised. And if the leaders of world padel continue their shift,  pressure will mount on the authorities  to review the rules of the game.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
