At the beginning of April, the Argentinian, currently ranked 5th in the world, presented his YouTube channel project, which is structured around two main axes: padel et gaming.

In the latest YouTube video of Franco Stupaczuk, the Argentinian is accompanied by his coach Carlos Pozzoni for complete tutorial on volleying in padel, an essential move to win points and build the attack.

This video offers a focus on the forehand volley, the backhand volley, and the volley towards the grid, with technical advice from Carlos Pozzoni as a coach, and the practical demonstrations carried out by Stupa, player side.

Forehand volley

Technical corrections in three stages:

  1. Footwork
  2. Body engagement
  3. The impact with the ball

“Move your feet well, pass your arm, arm forward.”

“Put your body weight forward as you step into the ball.”

“The ball should always be hit in front of you.”

Carlos Pozzoni emphasizes the role of the legs as the starting point of the gesture:

“You have to focus on your legs: start from the base, see the ball, bend your legs, and keep your arm a little in front of your body.”

He also recalls the importance of hit the ball in front of you and to move forward:

“The line of the ball should always be in front of the foot. If your foot is in front and you hit it behind, it's too late.”

Tactical

On backhand volley, Stupa deliberately aims the central area for tactical reasons:

“We try to play the ball not too wide to create confusion between the player on the right and the one on the left. We want to make them cross, to then free up space on the next point.”

About the flew towards the gate :

“Since we create doubt among our opponents by attracting them to the same ball, we will hit the ball a little further outside and look for the angle towards the grid, to have another option.”

The goal: to create confusion among opponents and take the advantage on the fly by leading the game. The tactic is therefore to open spaces.

Post-workout tips

Carlos Pozzoni et Stupa recall the importance of lower body placement and the work of the supports:

“When you hit a forehand volley, you cross your left foot in front and follow the ball through. For the backhand, it's the opposite.”

They also emphasize the accompaniment of the body forward and towards the ball to gain power and control, all in striking in front of oneself :

“You must always keep in mind that the body and the racket are in front, at the height of the tip of the foot, flexed.
I can't stand up straight and volley.”

Pozzoni finally underlines the need to bend the legs to be ready to play an effective volley:

“When he goes down (on his legs), it's his whole body that goes with him. And that's when you can cushion with your hips.”
