Everything works for Fernando Belasteguin In France. Qualified for the quarter-finals of Bordeaux Premier Padel P2 with Juan Tello, The " King Bela » stopped to answer questions from Padel Magazine. His feelings, his future, the Olympics: the Argentinian does not shy away from any subject.

Bordeaux, a unique stop on the international circuit

“I am very happy that Premier Padel settled in a new city like Bordeaux. This goes in the direction of the development of this sport. I am also delighted with the reception from the public and the organization, they must be congratulated. We must thank them for having the confidence of the circuit. »

A status to assume in Gironde

“It’s been since August 2018 that I haven’t been seeded number 1, almost six years. We played with Pablo Lima in Bøstad, Sweden, and we won the tournament. Next week, I injured my elbow and I only returned for the 2018 Master Final, this time as number 2. Since the start of my career, I like to compete against the best players. We are the current number 1 because the first four pairs are missing. But it's a nice feeling and I'm aware of it. It's not an additional pressure, I take it as a source of motivation. »

Competition as a key word

“First of all, I would like to thank Premier Padel because they offered to honor me at every tournament. I was happy but I told them that I preferred to play every stage of the circuit, because I am still in the competition. The Mar del Plata tribute was really special with my family and friends, but what I enjoy most is playing. I don't tell myself that this is my last tournament in each city. Today, I benefit from having a top partner like Juan Tello by my side, who allowed me to play in the quarter-finals again. »

Specific ambitions for the future

“I will continue in the world of padel and sports. It's the only world I know, it's what taught me everything in life. I am a big advocate of educating people through sports. I have two projects that I am proud of: the “W Bela” franchise, with the Wilson brand, and the expansion of “Bela Padel Centers”. We have one in Alicante and we see how our methodology works, we are in the process of building a bigger one in Barcelona. It will be ready at the end of the year or early 2025.”

The globalization of padel, a “very good thing”

“This is a very good thing because it clearly shows the bet that is being made Premier Padel for the padel. Of the 19 countries we are going to, some do not have this culture of professional sport. The stadiums are not as full as in Spain, Argentina or Italy, but the organizers are convinced that in five or ten years they will be full. I hope that in the future there will be one tournament per country. We are on the right track and we must continue to work, because the padel is a new sport. »

The Olympic Games, a dream too early?

“I think it's more of a desire that we have than something that's going to come true any time soon. We have a professional, serious and well-consolidated circuit. There are still things to improve on the circuit and among the players. Before arriving at the Olympics, we must progress on these aspects. You have to give time. I am convinced that the padel is the sport of the future because it has everything to be. It's fun, social, easy and mixed. Let’s let it grow in other parts of the globe! »
