It's time for the mid-season review for the players who are returning to the track in Madrid this week. Who has produced the best performance in the first 14 tournaments of the year? The statisticians of Padel help us see things clearly.
Men's stats: Galán, no surprises... but with some weak signals
The strong signals in these statistics will come as little surprise to Aficionados. In terms of points won, we find a well-known leading trio: Alejandro Galán is well ahead with 1 points, ahead of Arturo Coello (950 points) and Agustín Tapia (847 points). Note that Federico Chingotto ranks 7e with 570 points, which allows the Galán-Chingotto pair to total 1 points*, against 821 for Coello-Tapia. A handful of points (1) therefore separate the two pairs that currently dominate the circuit, which proves in passing how much the top level is played out in details. Alejandro Galán and Arturo Coello are also in first and second place in the number of points won compared to the number of points played, Francisco Navarro completing the podium.
Data from Padel Intelligence also reveals a number of interesting weak signals to discover. Do you know for example who is the player who has the best rate of important points won, that is to say the one who has the best mentality? Galán? Lebrón? Coello? Not at all, it is… Juanlu Esbri Gonzalez ! Although he certainly won the FIP Promotion of La Cala this year (January, with javier rico) and the FIP Gold of Valladolid (in June, associated with the same Javier Rico), the Spanish left-wing player, currently ranked 31st, has not shone much in the big events.
Another interesting piece of information to remember from the mid-season statistics: the leadership position that Leo Augsburg as regards the number of winning points compared to the total number of shots played. This statistic can only be understood with the number 1 place occupied by Tino Libaak as a facilitator, i.e. "partner's assistant" (in relation to the latter's total number of winning moves). Will the Augsburger gunner be able to produce such a clean copy alongsideAlex Chozas, with which he is now associated? Time will tell.
Women's stats: Sofia Araujo, mental strength
On the women's side, the trio of players who won the most winning points highlights the main queens of the circuit: Gemma Triay takes the lead in terms of total points won, ahead of Ari Sánchez et Paula Josemaría. We find the player from Minorca at the top of the number of points won compared to the number of points played, ahead of Sofia Araujo and Ari Sanchez.
The Portuguese, this year associated with Marta Ortega, also stands out in this ranking. Statistics to support it, Sofia Araujo has so far shown the best mental strength of the season (number of important points won) and she is the one who has the highest number of winning points (ahead of Paula Josemaría and Carolina orsi). The vipers winners remain however the particularity of Bea González, but also of Paula Josemaría and Delfina Brea, who occupy the first three places in this ranking. It should also be noted that Beatriz González ranks second in the number of winning smashes (behind Lorena Rufo Ortiz), and to the first of the number of bajadas. As for the player on the right who offers the best assistance to her partner, surprise again: it is Lucia Martinez Gomez (26e world player, associated with Ksenia Sharifova). She is ahead of Ari Sánchez and Delfi Brea, no less!
To what extent is this hierarchy likely to change by the end of the season? The answer will be in Qatar in December, after the last 11 rounds of the circuit.
* Even though Galán and Chingotto were not partners in the first tournament in Riyadh, we considered that the statistic gave a majority trend.
