“Tolito” Aguirre et Gonzalo Alfonso, known on the A1 Padel as the first pair of the circuit, are among the big favorites of the Gijón P2, which stands in Spain until Sunday March 2, taking advantage of the absence of the Top 100 worldwide due to a boycott.

“Tolito” Aguirre and Gonzalo Alfonso: Big favorites for P2 Gijón

Seeds number 3 of the tournament, Aguirre et Alfonso are the big favorites of the P2 Gijon, in the absence of the best players on the circuit.

Only two pairs are ahead of them in the ranking:

  • Seeded 1 : Barceló (164ᵉ) / Cremona (106ᵉ)
  • Seeded 2 : Iacovino (156ᵉ) / Di Giovanni (127ᵉ)

The Argentine pair, eliminated in the second round of qualifying for the P1 Riyadh in February (pocketing only 9 point), now aims to establish itself among the world elite. A victory at Gijón would offer them a unique opportunity to integrate the Top 100 worldwide and to directly access the main tables of the tournaments P1 et Major of the circuit Premier Padel.

A victory synonymous with Top 60

To join the Top 100

To enter the Top 100, each player must accumulate more than 600 point, because the current world 100th, Thomas Leygue (France) and Toni Bueno (Spain), have some 600 each.

  • At least the semi-finals to Alfonso, in order to pocket 180 point and total 622 point, synonymous with entry into the Top 100.
  • The pair will have to access the final, where each finalist wins 360 point, to allow both players to access the top 100. Which would allow Aguirre to reach 708 point and to rise to the 85th place worldwide and Alfonso to access the 75th place.
