At the Barcelona 2019 Master Finals we met the first non-Spanish woman to work for the World Padel Tour : Julie Derrough. A meeting that allows us to get to know better behind the scenes of the professional circuit of padel.

It's an interview like no other. You know Julie Derrough for having participated in the French championships of padel alongside Pauline Renvoisé. You also got to know her through her work in communicating about your favorite quickly Padel Magazine.

Its history at World Padel Tour starts in September 2019. Julie Derrough is in charge of the marketing relationship with the brands at the international level. Having lived in Madrid for several years, she becomes the first non-Spanish to work for WPT.

Padel Magazine : What goes behind the scenes of a WPT Final Master?

Julie Derrough: It is above all a lot of work. From production to running the event, the WPT company is doing a tremendous amount of work several months in advance, about 6 months. Today the Palau Sant Jordi is full, we are playing sold out. More than 9000 spectators and fans of padel from all over the world who come to admire the best players of padel.

PM: A few years ago, during these Master Finals, there were almost only Spaniards and Argentines. In 2020, the WPT has changed a lot ...

JD: Our goal for the years to come is to reach out to countries that have not yet created or attempted to organize events. padel of the WPT. If we can, we will continue to make the “buzz” on magical places like recently at the foot of the pyramids of Gyzeh in Egypt. Several axes therefore; First enter the countries where the padel is not yet present and then launch quality WPT events, well structured and approved in countries where the padel is already present and in full swing.

We are two people working on these subjects. For my part, the marketing part, and Hernán Bebe August, for the search for tournament places, indoor or outdoor. Our role is to launch the show of padel.

PM: For 2020, would there be new dates and new places that you could announce to us?

JD: The French public is becoming more and more interested in the WPT and, although nothing has been signed yet, there may be a WPT event in France. Not like Challenger or Open or Master, but like Egypt. A mythical place, representative of France and Paris, which would leave you speechless. But beware, nothing is signed.
