Le World Padel Tour should resume in early spring 2021 and the ranking will normally be released, what to expect when it resumes? We take stock.

An unpublished ranking for the draws

On March 30, at the time of the first confinement, the World Padel Tour decided to block ranking. Then was set up the Race, a ranking taking into account only the results of the year 2020, in order to determine the eight pairs that could participate in the Menorca Master Final. But it's another ranking that the WPT have used all season to draw lots for the paintings ...

Un ranking that is not published, called “sorto ranking”, and that only the players and coaches of the World Padel Tour can see, through their app. It works in the same way as in previous years: namely that a result on a date in year N replaces a result on the same date in N-1.

How to unlock the leaderboard for 2021

For the moment nothing official, but in order to reset everything in early 2021, the WPT should, to start the season, add to the Race points 2020, the 5 best results of 2019 of each player in Open and Master, as well as two Challengers 2019 (Paris and San Javier), and finally all the points gleaned in 2020 on the FIP circuit !

Players will therefore have at least fifteen tournaments taken into account (16 for those who contested the Master Final) at the start of the season. After the first round of 2021, it is the points of the Master of Marbella 2020 that should be deducted from the count and then the best result of 2019, the second best and so on. After the 6th tournament in 2021, we would therefore find the classic operation, namely that a tournament carried out in 2021 on a date will replace in the calculation of points a tournament carried out on the same date in 2020.

All this will of course be subject to one condition: that in 2021 the health crisis will not disrupt the WPT calendar as in 2020 and that the planned tournaments can take place. Otherwise, the World Padel Tour should be forced to find an intermediate solution again. Remember that in 2020, only 11 of the 20 Open and Master planned could take place ...
