We were recently interested in the professionalization of padel et to the survival of the players who start in a sport where, ultimately, everything is expensive. Travel, tournament registrations, hotel prices, etc.

One of the questions we can ask ourselves, in this sport which is emerging in modern times, is whether equal pay is respected? Even today, very few sports allow female players to hit as much as their male counterparts.

In an interview for the local Spanish newspaper, Murcia's opinion, Araceli Martínez Ibáñez 45e world player, said: “le padel is one of the sports where there is the least salary difference between men and women. "

So, what is it really? Let's see together:

On the World Padel Tour

Yes, le World Padel Tour is no longer a professional circuit in 2024. But all the same, for 10 years, it was he who decided prize money awarded to the stars of padel global. The circuit has therefore, for years, decided on the remuneration of players. It cannot be denied, there was advances… And regressions.

March 8th, 2022, on the occasion of Women’s Day, and in a context of “war” with Premier Padel, World Padel Tour had decided tooffer the same prize-money to women as to men ! Two years ago, there was talk of an increase in 250% in the Challenger category, 178% in the Open, 180% on Masters, and 160% regarding the Master Final.

It took nine years to know about this progress but better late than never!

Unfortunately, in 2023, the players quickly became disillusioned. Indeed, if the prize money was equal in the category of Final Master, it was divided by half in the contract offer made to the athletes. Furthermore, this prize money was granted only to those who signed the said contract.

Suffice to say that in terms of equality, the World Padel Tour was impeccable… over a year.

On the Premier Padel

New baby padel professional Premier Padel was able to observe and draw conclusions from the successes and mistakes of the World Padel Tour. For a time, the players refused to participate in this circuit because the contract offered to them was less attractive than that of World Padel Tour.

Finally, after reaching an agreement, the players arrived on the Premier Padel. And if there can be very good… there is also at least good.

At Greenweez Paris Major, for example, equal pay had been respected by Premier Padel. THE prize money at the end of the tournament was the same for men as for women.

But a few months later, during Milano Premier Padel P1, things have changed again. Equality has been pushed aside and women now earn almost two times less only men. 300.000 for gamers only 170.000 for women... We are a long way from equality.

So, can we talk about equal pay? Not at all. If, in certain tournaments, this is the case, it is not yet implemented everywhere.

The start of the 2024 season Premier Padel is imminent and unless there is a big change in situations we should remain with the status quo, namely that women will still earn less money than men this year...

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
