Yanja El Khattat  is the President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, where the Intercontinental Padel Cup of the AICP.

For years, he has heard about padel, especially in Dakhla. However, at present,  there are still no tracks in the city …with the exception of the one that was set up especially for the event in one of the public squares.

But this could change quickly in the pearl of the Sahara… Yanja El Khattat tells us more.

Dakhla, (soon) a land of padel?

The return of padel to Dakhla, we experience it with  a great joy . It’s a sport that is very unifying. I think that  Dakhla is a city with a future for this sport .

I believe that the organization of this type of competition will  offer much more influence  in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. Moreover, we rely a lot on the association which organized this event, particularly materially.

Finally some padel courts?

We have, finally,  three tracks  for the practice of padel which will be installed in a hotel establishment not far from here.

This track, where the Intercontinental Cup is currently being played, we are trying to see if we can leave it here, in this environment. In the end, we could soon find ourselves with  four padel courts. 

A sport that can please

People here are willing to learn to play this sport. Some already play tennis, for example, so padel already has a very  good image among young people in Dakhla. 

So we think that with four tracks, it will be a good start. Then, we will see to continue to make padel proliferate in Dakhla.

Dakhla and sport-tourism

The tourism that we have, here in Dakhla, is water sports tourism, including kitesurfing. So why not see one day  Dakhla also becomes a destination for padel .

Today the only thing missing is  raising people's awareness  from here. But when there is  a vocation among young people , we will be able to support as a region to facilitate initiatives.

It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
