On the occasion of the first edition of Personality Trophy, organized by Lagardère Paris Racing and the Imagine Institute, Yoann Huget, former French international rugby player, comes to our microphone.

His duet with Thierry Omeyer

“Thierry is a very, very good player, so whenever the weather permits, we play padel with great enthusiasm. At the moment, there are many tournaments, and the weather is ideal for playing. We really enjoy getting together, especially since many of us were already at the Eiffel Tower (Editor's note: during the finals of the Betclic Remontada). We always have a little ambition, but we shouldn't say it too much (laughs).

We had the opportunity to play together with Thierry at the Eiffel Tower: I try to return all the shots, being solid in defense, and he is responsible for finishing the points. He has an advantage thanks to his experience as a handball goalkeeper. I think he can take us very, very high.

My style of play could be summed up as “save whoever can”. For me, it’s essential to give 100%, to sweat and to show my teammate that he can always count on me.”

Padel, a complement to rugby?

“When you are out of the group or when you are injured, it can be interesting to work on small supports. It is also very cardio. If we come up against a good pair with a fairly similar level of play, we can really quickly sweat while having fun. So padel is really very complementary with sports like rugby and can be a link or a cross-functional way to exercise when we are not in the group on the weekend or for a resumption of activity.”

Antoine Dupont is doing very well at padel

“Thomas Ramos, he wants to compete with me, like he did in rugby. So I'm waiting for him to end his career to see what he's really worth. I've also heard that Antoine Dupont is doing very well. Then, there's one who thinks he's good, but he's rubbish, it's Grégory Lamboley. He thinks he's very, very strong because he plays a little bit every day, but he still has to improve (laughs). But in rugby, a lot of players try padel, so it's difficult to really assess the level of each one.”
