Botello: “I think the punto de oro has changed the sport”

If he announced last July thathe was retiring as a professional player, Uri Botello hasn't strayed from the sport that made him famous. In an interview with our colleagues from Olé a few days ago, the native of Melilla evoked the reasons which contributed to his decision making but also the evolutions of the padel, including the famous “golden point” found in particular on the WPT and the APT.

And the least we can say is that unlike others, Uri is absolutely not a fan of this novelty when counting points.

“I think the 'punto de oro' changed this sport and personally I never liked it. It is true that this generates more emotions on the side of the spectator but basically, the primary objective was to shorten the duration of the matches and that did not work. For my part, I would return to the matches with the advantages.”

And you? Did you include the “golden point” to your games or do you prefer to keep the advantages?
