Marrero / Ortega: The queens of Marbella

At the start of the Master in Marbella, the first stage of World Padel Tour in 2019, there was a lot of uncertainty among girls. We had the right to a waltz of changes of pairs, sometimes even surprising with this separation between Alejandra Salazar and Marta Marrero to whom we promised an exceptional 2019 season.

Yet, against all odds, the two girls separated. Marta to play with Martita Ortega and Alejandra Salazar with Ariana Sanchez.

New proof of their level of play, we find them both in the final, but this time against each other. And in this confrontation, it is Marrero / Ortega who wins in 3 sets, after the loss of the first set 6/4, she will win the following two sets: 6/1 6/4.

A very nice final. Even if we had the right to empty passages in each pair.

We note that Martita Ortega was the target of Alejandra Salazar in his diagonal and that his former partner Ari Sanchez, did not hesitate to break his diagonal with Marta Marrero to play Martita. One reason: Even though Marta may be more consistent throughout the match, she seems more powerful. She is the only player capable of finishing a point definitively. Ari certainly has exceptional defense, but like last year, she can seem a bit tender on offense. Alejandra Salazar has played her match.

If for the quality of the debates, it is good that Salazar and Marrero have separated, we still do not understand why these two players who finish on a victory at the Masters of Madrid, wanted to separate. One day maybe we'll know it.

What do you think ?

  • Completely agree with this analysis. The separation of Ale and Marta is quite incomprehensible. Both youngsters clearly won the change. Disappointed by the level of Ari who was nervous and febrile (as 1 / 2 final elsewhere) and made a number of mistakes incalculable.
