Roland Garros: Process for awarding wild-cards on merit

After establishing an allocation of wild-cards on merit for the main tournament and the qualifications of Roland-Garros, the French Tennis Federation wished to apply this same process, which will constitute one of the major sporting novelties in 2020, for French players in the Junior main draw.

This new system, based on respect for sporting fairness, will thus deliver two wild-cards for each main draw of the Roland-Garros Juniors tournament (boys and girls).

Set up by the National Technical Department, this process, which is part of the federal project "Acting and Winning 2020", aims to encourage French players to play ITF World Tennis Tour Major Juniors tournaments. French, to highlight these events and the movement of players tricolor abroad, to develop the culture of winning and merit but also to help young people to progress on the circuit.

Please find, below, the methods retained for the attribution of these " wild-cards ".

1 "Race" France Juniors

The first wild-card will be awarded to the French player, not directly integrating the main draw, who will be the best ranked in the France Juniors "Race". This circuit includes the three tournaments, below, all played on clay:

  • Cap d'Ail (J2) - from 6 to 11 April 2020
  • Istres (J2) - from 13 to 18 April 2020
  • Beaulieu-sur-Mer (J1) - from 20 to 26 April 2020

Rule of calculation:

  • Taking into account of the results in singles only;
  • The number of points awarded to the players is identical to the points in the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors ranking (see table below);
  • In case of equality of points scored between two or more players, the international ranking premium (ranking of the week following Beaulieu-sur-Mer).

2 International Juniors Race

The second wild-card will be awarded to the French player, not integrating directly into the final table, who will be the best ranked in the International Juniors "Race".

Rule of calculation:

  • Taking into account all the tournaments of grades A, 1, 2 and 3 played on clay from January 2 to May 17, 2020;
  • Taking into account of the results in singles only;
  • The number of points awarded to the players is identical to the points in the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors ranking (see table below);
  • In case of equality of points scored between two or more players, the international ranking premium (ranking of the week of 18 May).

It should be noted that if the same player, not integrating directly the final table, finishes in the first place of the "Race" France Juniors and the international "Race" Juniors, the second wild-card will be awarded to the 2e highest ranked player in the international "Race".
