Squash: A major cardiac impact

Girard et al. studied the energy cost in 21 games on 7 elite squash players. They recorded VO2 and found average values of 86% of VO2max.

In this same study by Girard et al., It was shown that players traveled an average of 2,9 km during a squash match. In this sport it is a repetition of sprints which are generally 3 to 6 meters away, more than half of which are behind and generally followed by a lunge or a dynamic movement to prepare for racket.

Regarding the average heart rate during a squash match, the various studies show values of 162 to 177 beats per minute (Alvero et al., Girard et al., Sharp NCC) which corresponds to an average of 81% of maximum heart rate.
