The Coello/Tapia TGV set to start again in 2024?

After their defeat in the final of the P1 in Riyadh, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia won the Qatar Major and the P1 in Acapulco with an impression of domination reminiscent of last season. With their regained form and the separation of their main rivals Lebron/Galan, who can stop the Coello/Tapia TGV in 2024?

A steamroller that is difficult to stop

Last year, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia won the first nine tournaments of the World Padel Tour before experiencing their first defeat. This year, the Hispanic-Argentinian pair started in Riyadh with a loss in the final following an excellent performance from Lebron and Galan.

Since then, the world number ones have not lost a single set. In Qatar, Yanguas and Garrido, winners of Stupa/Di Nenno and Lebron/Galan, caught the train in the face in the final : 6/0-6/2 in less than an hour.

Rebelote in Acapulco, “King Arthur"And"the Mozart of Catamarca” left only crumbs for their opponents. For Lebron and Galan's last dance, the two men showed themselves to be merciless by ending the match in less than an hour: 6/0-6/4.

Who to derail the world number ones?

Like last season, one or more teams must now raise their level of play to cast doubt on Coello/Tapia and make the journey of the world number ones more difficult. The most likely non-exhaustive list starts with the men they are most worried about in 2023

First of all, the team of “super kids“, Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno, seem obvious as first choices. A very efficient pair which inflicted the first defeats on Coello/Tapia, very complicated to maneuver especially in slow playing conditions. The Argentines were threatening in the standings until the end, and are just as determined this year.

Then, we will have to see what the new associations of the coming weeks will give. Alejandro Galan and Fede Chingotto seems to be a complementary pair full of experience who can have the arguments, in attack as well as in defense, to stand up to the front car of the circuit.

In the same sense, the return of the masters of the circuit in 2019, Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron will surely spark. The two men, driven by an unwavering desire to win, will certainly be keen to take up the challenge to return to the top.

Obviously, other teams could surprise Coello/Tapia in a match, but it is difficult to see another team having the necessary qualities to look the number ones eye to eye for several weeks without being knocked down...
