World Qatar 2020: the French in the semi-finals!

The French women's team wins against Mexico in 2020 World Cup quarter-final thanks to two wins signed by the Collombon / Soubrié and Invernon / Ligi pairs.

The first match was won without problem by Alix Collombon and Charlotte Soubrié, who knew how to put commitment and seriousness to make short work of their opponents. A 6/0 6/0 victory in the line of group matches for the French. Clearly, the level difference was far too important for the South Americans to hope for better in this first game.

The second game gave us a much more interesting spectacle. On the one hand we had the best Mexican pair, Cabrejas / De La Peña, and on the other the two new ones Fiona Ligi and Élodie Invernon. After a stuck start to the first set, the French managed to save 4 set points at 4/4.

Frustrated at having missed these opportunities, Mexicans begin to make more mistakes, to rush. The French, in confidence, take the opportunity to afford the first round: 6/4.

Behind, they continue. Not making mistakes, they make great use of slow conditions. While the Mexican left-wing player tends to use too much of the smash, Élodie Invernon shows much more patience and connects winning shots. Mobile and aggressive, Fiona Ligi is stepping up to allow France to lead 4/0. The South Americans will have a little burst of pride but not enough to stop the tricolor machine which wins 6/4 6/2. A great victory for Fiona and Élodie who celebrate their first selection with France wonderfully!

The French therefore validate their ticket for the semi-finals and already achieve a better result than in Paraguay where they had finished fifth! Tomorrow, they will face Spain, which logically did not detail against Belgium.

In the meantime, it's time for the third game (without a stake), which opposes Léa Godallier and Mai Vo to the Escobar / Salazar pair.
