WPT Madrid Masters: Moyano/Gil overthrows Sanyo/Tapia

What unbearable suspense! Argentinian Rami Moyano and Spaniard Francisco Gil created the feat this Wednesday in 1/16e of the final of the WPT Madrid Master, against the seeded n°2 of the table.

Four games in a row

Down 5/1 to 3e set, Sanyo Gutierrez and Agustin Tapia, adrift since the start of the second set, nevertheless made two late breaks to equalize at 5-5. The Argentinians thought they had done the hardest part after these four games in a row, but that was without counting on the pugnacity of the n°37 and 39 of the ranking. The underdogs then again took the service of the favorites to lead 6-5 and serve once again for the match.

And this time was the right one: they win this unbreathable game 3/6 6/2 7/5, after 2h21 of combat.

A surprising result against the pair in form of the moment, for whom an elimination in 1/16th is a big underperformance.

Match statistics

Six punto de oro against two

In this match, Moyano and Gil showed much more realism than their opponents on the “punto de oro”, since they won six against two.

Tapia and Sanyo's last stand was too late to win, even if they gave their opponents, the real heroes of the day, a cold sweat. In the next round, they will face Javi Garrido and Lucas Campagnolo, who also won a marathon match against Perino and Ayats.
