World Seniors Plus 2024: the point before the start of the championship

Tomorrow will mark the start of Seniors Plus World Championships in La Nucia from Alicante in Spain where Team France will try to win the best medals, for both the Gentlemen and the Ladies.

As a reminder, these 2024 Worlds are distinguished by the holding of two parallel tournaments:

  • The classic Tournament of Nations : each delegation will be made up of five pairs (+35, +40, +45, +50 and +55 years) and will have to earn three points to win against another country.
  • The pairs tournament : each team will be able to compete in the table of their age category in individual form, like a classic tournament.

You can find out here the full complement of French teams who will be present in Alicante tomorrow.

Gentlemen: Reaching the final four

The captain of the French team, Gentlemen, Simon Boissé, was clear : its minimum objective for the French team will be the Top 5. After a third place in Las Vegas in 2022 and a bronze medal at the European Championships in 2023, the Blues intend to maintain their rank among the best nations in senior plus.

To do this, we will have to rise to the level of the favorites Spain and Argentina. France will perhaps have the opportunity to defeat its tormentor from the last two competitions: Sweden. Before the semi-finals, the French could well come across Italy which we will have to be wary of.

Simon Boissé also highlighted the arrival of Adrien Maigret and Max Moreau in +35 years who will be a great contribution to the team competition. In addition, both men will have a good card to play in the Open tournament in their category.

Ladies: Eyes on the final

The silver medal, this is the goal set by the captain of the Seniors Plus Ladies Amélie Detrivière for her selection. Bronze medalists at the 2022 World Cup, Les Bleues were able to win this silver charm at Euro 2023, defeated in the final by Spain. The French ambitions are logically very high in a competition which now presents five categories, compared to three in the past (+40, +45, +50 years).

In addition to the great Iberian rival, France must not fall into the traps set by the teams they will face before the final four, such as the Netherlands, Argentina or the United States. Then, the Blue will certainly have to face another contender for the finals, namely Belgium or Sweden, before potentially finding Spain at the end of the road.

As for the Open, the French players will be expected around the corner after their three gold medals won at the last European Championships. In addition, Team France can count on choice additions this year, such as Charlotte Soubrié in +35 years and Emilie Loit in +45 years.
