Why the worlds of padel 2022 will be played in Qatar and not in Valencia

The world championships padel 2022 will take place for the second consecutive time in Doha. After the official announcement by the International Federation of Padel, many players were surprised behind the scenes at this choice.

Two events and two successes in Qatar

Indeed, Qatar not only hosted the world precedent in 2021, but also offered the first Grand Chelem du padel in 2022 via the new official professional circuit, Premier Padel.

Two events and two successes. For many players, these events are among the most beautiful ever carried out so far.

Redo a world in Qatar “surprised"

Many players were surprised despite everything to return to Qatar to replay a World Cup, just a year after the previous edition.

The 7th player in the world, the Argentinian Franco Stupaczuk, has also expressed on this point at Roland-Garros. Without language of wood, Franco explained to us to have anticipated a world in Valence.

The FIP board validated Doha against Valencia

We asked the FIP President, Luigi Carraro, the reasons for this choice.

He answers us:

“We received three candidates: Valencia, Dubai and Doha. After analyzing mainly the sporting part, the FIP board voted for Doha. We remember the players loved the event.”

For the FIP, the choice of Doha seems to have been the assurance of having a professional competition carried out under optimal conditions.

Doha therefore managed to pass Dubai, which had positioned itself to obtain the 2022 World Cup, and especially against Valencia in Spain, whose candidacy seemed the big favorite this year.

Indeed, the players seemed largely favorable to Valencia, as Stupa predicted. from last december.

But for the FIP President, what makes the difference is “especially the sports part“. We imagine that the structures and conditions offered by Qatar are difficult to compete with.
