After witnessing the third coronation of Delfina Brea and Beatriz Gonzalez on the WPT circuit, attention was focused on the men's category for the grand final of the Finland Open. Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron faced the talented Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, who have aroused admiration since the start of the tournament with their excellent level of play. Despite an intense second set, it was the favorites who won the final victory.

Ruthless Galan and Lebron

The former numbers 1 of the circuit quickly took control of the game. The two Spaniards, clearly determined for this second part of the season, imposed their game from the start. “El Lobo” and his partner quickly outdistanced their opponents, 3/0, casting doubt in their minds. Despite serving, Jon and Coki failed to capitalize and, on a “punto de oro”, Juan and Alejandro extended their lead to 4/0. Without trembling, they concluded the first set with a clear round and a score of 6/0.

Sanz / Nieto comes close to the feat

The second set started off similarly, with a strong and focused Galan/Lebron pairing largely replicating their performance from the previous set to lead 3-1. However, youthful energy and determination resurfaced. Jon and Jorge, after a harsh 6/0 in the first set, managed to equalize at 3/3, breathing new hope into the game. Their renewed confidence even allowed them to pass, at 4/3.

The battle then intensified on the ground of the Padelone Arena. The four players exchanged blow for blow, making the outcome of the meeting uncertain until the end (6/6). The second set was therefore played in a tie-break. In the end, experience prevailed and the favorites prevailed in this decisive game by 7 points to 5, allowing them to win their first victory of the season on the WPT circuit.

Final score: 6/0 – 7/6(5)

This victory comes at a crucial moment for the two Spaniards, who are preparing to participate in the Paris Major 2023 in a few days.
