Return on the interview live on Instagram of Johan Bergeron, champion of France, player of the French team of padel and World Padel Tour.

Here is a summary of the live Podcast of the FACE-à-FACE program produced on April 22, 2020 at 18 p.m. on the Instagram page.

  • On containment and its training

I spend confinement in the south of France, in my beautiful family. We have a house, garden, ping-pong table and small tennis court arranged to make volley-volley. I totally stopped the sport for the first 10 days. There you have to go back and talk. Complicated as long as there is no fixed recovery date. But you still have to do some physics for the end of the season which is likely to be very busy.

  • On his journey through the padel

It has been 5-6 years now since I started the padel. It's thanks to Pierre-Etienne Morillon, who was my tennis coach in Lyon. When he left to work at Head, he discovered the padel and told me I would like it. So, we tried, we did a tournament directly. We won the first game in the super tie-break, then we took a huge socket but it got us more, we are competitors so we wanted to continue. There was Padel Central, first club of padel in the Region, and we started training.

  • On his meeting with Bastien Blanqué

With Pierre-Etienne we lost at the National Tennis Cup to Blanqué / Salles (having led 9/4 to the super tie-break). I immediately liked his game and I said to Pierre-Etienne: "if one day I have to change my partner I would love to play with Bastien". Then one day he called me, he had the opportunity to do an internship in Madrid, and he offered to set up a project, to play together. I was a tennis teacher, I already had a job, so I said no. Then finally I talked to my relatives who motivated me to start. So we set up a project in two weeks with Bastien, we didn't really know each other but we decided to go to Madrid.

  • On his career in France and the fact that they do not play together on the international circuit

Everything went very quickly, we won almost everything in the first year in France, and we are still unbeaten at the French Championships. We lived two years together, we got along very well but we didn't have the expected results in Spain. We therefore decided to separate to try to gain experience each on our side with Spaniards, while continuing together in France.

  • On the association which had been mentioned with Jérémy Scatena and which was not made

We had a very good end of the season together, we won the FIP of Dubaï and Angers together. There was a click in Mijas where we went to the preprévia final when we had never won a set together on the training sets for the French team. I would have played with him on the WPT this year, but everything was not simple and in the end he decided to play with Benjamin Tison, with whom he makes a great pair. We all get along very well, the three of us live together!

  • On the last European Championships

We had a huge game in the final with Scat, even if we lost, it remains the best event in which I played. It was a chance to be able to play in front of 700 people, the Italians at home, the public was against us, we used that to motivate us even more.

  • The assimilations

The FFT works with the players to reform the assimilation system. A way must be found to integrate the results of World Padel Tour in the French ranking, via a certain percentage.

  • Cancellation of all FFT competitions

I am the first to be disappointed with this kind of decision. We train every day in Spain, partly for the French circuit. The FFT preferred to cancel everything knowing that the regional championships could not be played. Make a blank year in quotes and start again in 2021. If we could do the French Championships in another form for this year, I would sign immediately.

  • On the functioning of the aid of the FFT towards the players

She follows us in our international project. We have a scholarship for the year which is awarded according to their budget and our results. I have already heard that the FFT pays us for our year, it is false, but it helps us yes.

  • The main difference between France and Spain for the best

The main difference is time. In Spain they had time to train, to train great players, which in France we don't have yet. We are going to train in Spain, I hope that France can catch up as soon as possible.
