Miguel Lamperti is still there ! At 44, the Argentinian does not intend to give up. Padel Magazine meet him during Mexico Major of Premier Padel in Monterey.

keep on fighting

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: How do you feel about this Monterrey tournament?

Miguel Lamperti: “The facilities are magnificent, I take a lot of photos! The center court is huge, and I hope the stands can fill up, that would be amazing.”

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: You are an emblematic player in this sport, but many are discovering the padel and discover you at the same time. Tell us how you started padel.

Miguel Lamperti: “I started on padel in 1992. The padel was all the rage in Argentina. I was 12 years old and I played basketball. A track with walls was installed where I was playing and I got into it. Very quickly I was told that I was playing very well, and I started doing tournaments. In one year I passed all the categories and at 16 I started playing professionally. In 1999, I finished pair n°2 in Argentina, then pair n°1 two years later. I then spent four years in Brazil, and in 2006 I landed in Spain to confront the best. And it still is today!”

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: Do you think it's mandatory to live in Spain to fight against the best?

Miguel Lamperti: “Today I think that's less the case. There are so many tournaments… Over 30. So maybe it's not necessary because we travel all year round. the padel looks more and more like tennis and I think it's good for the players!”

The best racket

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: Let's talk about your racket...

Miguel Lamperti: “It's the best racquet I've ever had. I've been playing with it since 2010. This is a limited edition we made. It's the Nox ML with some tweaks. It has the 18k carbon which gets the ball out of the key very fast, but also provides control.”

“The difference between this racquet and the others is that it is ideal for the beginner, the intermediate level player or the professional player. I take the racquets directly from the store, and there is no difference. It is a very adaptable racquet. I love it and wouldn't change it for the world.”

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: Some players change the weight, the balance… Do you do that too?

Miguel Lamperti :v“Yes, it all depends on the people. I, for example, play with palas that weigh 377 grams. A racquet that weighs less won't have that much power, but it will be easier to move. And vice versa.”

Leads concerning his teammate for 2023

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: There have been many pair changes. You played with Yanguas at the WPT in Mexico, here you are with Cepero. What is the project for 2022?

Miguel Lamperti: “It's not 100% sure so I can't tell you yet. I will tell you in two weeks.”

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: What country is he from?

Miguel Lamperti: “The country… He's a very good player. He is very talented, not so young as the last three players I played with, but younger than me! He is very happy to be able to play alongside me and I hope we can have good results.”

Lorenzo Lecci Lopez: What is the plan? Do you want to play both circuits next season? More than 30 tournaments for a 44-year-old player ?

Miguel Lamperti: “Honestly, if the physical allows me, I would like to play. I love competition. It's true that this month I'm tired, but like all players. You also have to do a lot of mental work to hold on when the results are not the best.”
