This was the pair everyone wanted to see in action this Wednesday in Brussels, and despite a very delicate start, she managed to avoid major disillusionment.

Back together after forming the first world pair in 2019, Paquito Navarro and Juan Lebron were expected to enter the competition at Brussels P2. Seed 2 in the Belgian tournament, the Andalusians had a status to honor on the Tour&Taxis central.

But at the start of this first round, it was another recently formed pair who appeared most comfortable. Indeed, new teammates Jaime “Chipi” Muñoz and Javi Garcia were the most precise during a first act which they logically won 6/3. Building on their momentum, the outsiders even had the luxury of starting the second round with a break.

Paquito's fans, who saw him start with a defeat with Tello then with Sanyo, feared to see their favorite start yet another association with a “first”. But the Sevillian's guitar would end up ringing and by showing great mentality, the favorites caught up and brought their experience to bear at the best time to get back to one round all: 7/5.

Relieved to have been able to get out of a compromised situation, Rodri Ovide's players would take matters into their own hands in the deciding set and never let go again. They won 3/6 7/5 6/1 and joined the second round, just like the other favorites.

Tomorrow, it is against the tough Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona that Paquito and Lebron will try to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The other favorite pairs, Coello/Tapia, Galan/Chingotto and Stupa/Di Nenno all had straight sets victories in the first round.
