On the sidelines of this magnificent victory at FFT Padel Tour de Valenciennes with his partner Bastien Blanqué, Johan Bergeron looked back on his start to the year in Spain, but also on this big weekend of padel concludes with the most beautiful way.

  • In France, it continues to work very well. In Spain, it's more complicated at the beginning of the year?

You cannot compare Spain and France. These are two situations that have nothing to do with it. The competition and the level of play in Spain are incredible. The pairs are very competitive from the first rounds of the Preprevias of the World Padel Tour. Many players play padel for decades. And yet, the French manage to pass prequalification rounds. So, all this remains very positive even if it is true that I would have preferred to garner some victories on the pro circuit before coming to France.

  • When we see the level of play that you have delivered this we, is a return to business with Bastien possible in Spain?

Bastien and I decided to separate in Spain. I think that's what it takes to try to gain experience and play with other partners. In France, we are more together than ever. And we are competitive. But in Spain, we thought we had to succeed in passing a course.

This year I played with Julio Sierra. But after 2 steps, we decided to separate. We do not have the same vision of the game. So, for Alicante, I will play with Max Moreau. Then I will play with a player nicknamed Bubita: An offensive player with whom I train every week.

  • it makes 4 wins ranks against Tison / Maigret. Yet we have the impression that you are never favorites before a confrontation against Parisians?

It is true. It's strange, because we have the impression that around us, we often put us in position of outsider against the pair Tison / Maigret. However, on the field, it was an 4e consecutive victory against the Parisians. We are here to win and we are afraid of anyone ... Except maybe Bela / Lima (smile).

At the same time, we cannot compare the good results of certain French pairs on the French circuit and the possible disappointments on the Spanish circuit. We're not talking about the same thing at all. And we can make the mistake of believing that we are not in good shape when in reality everything is fine. The big difference for me is that the World Padel Tour is a completely separate competition. We are in the middle of a hundred top players and we have to find a place. it takes time, but we train every day for it.

We remain on several victories against the first French pair and we hope to regain our first place in the French hierarchy very soon thanks to this title in Valenciennes for the FFT PADEL TOUR.

  • We have the impression that this is the classico that everyone expects ...

We will try to be present most often with Bastien during the stages of the FFT Padel Tour. But we also have an international calendar which may cause us to miss a few stages. That's a shame. There should be more consultation between the French authorities and those of the World Padel Tour so that in the future this will not happen again.

It is true that we are building a good opposition against Parisians Benjamin Tison and Adrien Maigret. it's a healthy showdown. But beware, competition in France is increasingly important. I remind you that there was the Franco-Spanish pair Bernils / Scatena, the brothers of Benito, Moreau / Ritz, Authier / Lopes… And the more we advance in the year, the more complicated it will be to go to the end of each stage.
