Spitting, in the context of padel or any other sport, can be seen as a problem for several reasons. If obviously the phenomenon is not common, and there are clubs more or less affected by this behavior, it is enough for clubs to want to address this theme.
We have listed 5 reasons:
Hygiene
Spitting is considered unhygienic. Spit can contain various micro-organisms, and leaving this saliva on the ground could increase the risk of transmission of certain diseases. Risk
Sanitaire
In the context of contagious diseases like COVID-19, spit can potentially contribute to the spread of the virus, especially if the virus is present in the saliva of an infected person. It has been advised, particularly during the pandemic, to avoid any behavior that could promote transmission, including spitting in public or in shared areas.
Safety
In addition to health concerns, spitting on the field can make the surface slippery, posing a trip or fall hazard for players.
Respect
Spitting is often seen as a lack of respect for other players and facilities.
Maintenance
The Padel courts require regular maintenance to stay in good condition. Repeated spitting may increase the need for more frequent cleaning and may damage the surface in the long term.
