Le World Padel Tour (WPT) is the professional circuit of padel reference at the international level which brings together the best players of the WPT ranking. The first tournaments of World Padel Tour appear in 2012.

The organization of events is managed by SETPOINT EVENTS SA, a subsidiary of the parent company of SA DAMM, a brand that produces beer in Catalonia.

Internationalization of World Padel Tour

Each year, between 15 and 20 tournaments padel are organized, mainly in Spain. Points are distributed at the end of each tournament, to establish the WPT ranking. The mechanism is comparable to that of ATP in tennis.

The 2020 edition included a record number of stages (22), and an internationalization of tournaments with matches in Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Mexico, or even in Qatar. Unfortunately, only the first stage could be run normally in Marbella: all the other stages having been suspended with the expansion of COVID-19 worldwide. Today, the recovery took place behind closed doors.

Financial allocations

The table above corresponds to the tournament rewards amounts donated by the World Padel Tour to players. The amount of these sums depends on the result of the player, and the type of tournament (Master, Open or Challenger).

The pair that received the largest sum in 2019 is made up of Juan Lebron and Paquito Navarro, who pocketed € 58 each thanks to their results on the WPT. It should be noted that almost half of this sum is paid back to taxes.

Only the best players in the world, who manage to achieve very good results on a regular basis, earn a good living.

These players are often the ones who can generate high income from sponsors and advertising contracts. Then follow the players who are above the tenth place in the WPT ranking who manage to finance their career as a top sportsman thanks to their results, and to their advertising contracts (much lower than those of the top 10).

Finally, the vast majority of players, who do not have the chance to generate as much income, find themselves in a delicate financial situation. The support of a federation becomes essential.
