Amélie Feaugas and Mai Vo recently had a very nice tournament during the Open Tennis Padel Sun. If Mai Vo is known for her atypical game and as a member of the France team in 2018, Amélie Feaugas is unknown to the battalion. A new pair that could upset the hegemony of the top 3 on the women's circuit.

Focus on these two players with a “smashing” temperament!

  • Your career in tennis and padel ?

May: I started smashing pretty young tennis rackets. I was up to -4 / 6, but I played well enough late when I got a little sluggish and started thinking in the field.

I got down to padel in 2015 when I landed in Perpignan for studies. In the Pyrénées Orientales, everyone had started to change the size of their snowshoes. Suddenly, as something had to be done, I got embarked by Emmelien Lambregts and Alain Henry in the padel without too much resistance.

I think that if I had not been to Perpignan I would never have put myself so early in the padel because I still love tennis. But tennis requires a lot of time and a significant physical investment so the padel this is a good way to recycle young worn-out tennis players who are lazy!

So after a year of padel started in 2015, I ruptured the anterior cross of the knee. So I was able to resume after 11 months, I did an experiment on the right in 2017 before logically going back to the left, with my waist size, last season.

Amélie: a lot of tennis from 8 to 25 years old, age of peak with a ranking of -15. I started on padel within a group of enthusiasts (and crazy people) chaired by Frédéric Auru (the FAPO), who is also a member of my tennis club.

It was when I won the Setteo Cup with this group last October in Malaga that I started to contract the virus. padel. Everything was there: the atmosphere, the results, the weather, the cocktails ...

  • May / Amélie, will you play together in 2019?

May: If Amélie does not make us miss the planes or others to go on the tournaments, we should see us bitch together on the grounds!

Amelie: As long as I play right.

  • May, changing partners, there is a particular reason initially?

May: Yes, Audrey Casanova is way too nice. So, next to her I spent so much for a little dragon, that my ego took a hit and I preferred to ask for a divorce amicably.

More seriously, the main reason is above all the distance. Long-distance relationships are complicated and even in the padel ! Being in Bordeaux and Audrey in Aix, we played together only in tournaments so it was not easy to train. In addition, for the programming of tournaments, it is easier to choose them according to the distance. Audrey prefers to go and play in sunny Aix in a tank top while I have a little crush on playing in a down jacket under the cover of Angers.

Before playing with Audrey, I told myself that after playing for a year with a player from Nice, I would stop long-distance relationships. But when Audrey Casanova offers you to do a tournament or even the season, you can't refuse. She is adorable and padelistically, I don't even mention it!
  • Tell us your story both?

May: I saw Amélie for the first time in Malaga in October 1 for the setteo. She played for a Bordeaux club (2018PADEL Bordeaux) in the cookies category. I saw a large jig posted at the net that hit everything with a volley with a club instead of a racquet.

And in November, there is a P250 in Bordeaux that I had not specially planned. As there were a lot of teams involved, I told myself that I was going to do it so that it makes a pair more for once there is something other than a P100 Bordeaux.

I asked a friend who was already registered and then I did some social asking Amelie.

Result: a nice tournament with a defeat in half on Léa (Godallier) and Nada (Majdoubi) with a few match points I think… The logical continuation is the addiction padelrising istic for Amélie. So, being both in Bordeaux with the desire to send pots to the field, we said to ourselves that we could play tournaments ...

Amelie: I was lucky to be the second choice of May on this P250 in Bordeaux. With such a partner, I had to become addicted to this sport. Since then, we have been going through tournaments.

  • A very promising start ... Your results and especially the most recent with this final in Beausoleil.

May: Yes already the 1st tournament was more than promising in Bordeaux by hooking Léa and Nada with so little padel for Amélie. Then we won a P250 in Toulouse by beating Marianne and Charlotte Soubrié, then the P500 d'Angers by playing a few girls around the top 20 I think, in Lyon we had a great tie-break on Jess (Ginier) and Fiona (Ligi) ...
And there, indeed, in Beausoleil we have a very good tournament. We win 7 / 5 7 / 6 on Lea (Godallier) and Melissa (Martin) while being led 5 / 2 to 1er. We have fun and we have a very good game on our side. For their part, having never seen them play together, I can not say if they were below their level or not.
We spend a lot of half (laugh), 7 / 6 7 / 5 on Line (Meites) and Géraldine (Sorel) who played very well, we get to play better in important moments.
And in the final ... defeat in 2 small sets 6 / 3 6 / 3 on Alix and Jess with a middle match interesting in terms of intensity.
I didn't think we would get to this level so quickly when Amélie began to understand in mid January that there were windows around a lot of padel.
  • After playing against the French pair 1 ... You say to yourself, it's winnable?

May: After playing Alix and Jess, already Amélie realizes the level. Of course I think it's winnable, but I also know that we can take a beating or lose on pairs that have already beaten.

Last year, playing with Audrey, we enjoy the final of the French Championships by making a great match pretty hooked. In Beausoleil, we also have fun with Amélie on the middle of the match. I have no regrets on these games, we'll see if it's happening or not at a time!

We will surely be expected at the turn, but knowing that Amélie seems to be at least as, if not more, perfectionist than me, we know that there are still many hours of training to program with the great coach Gregory Monge and little Jorge! (Coaches in Bordeaux)

Amélie: This Beausoleil tournament allowed me to be confronted with very different games and to realize the level to be reached. May, unsurprisingly, is already on top. I still have a lot of lessons to take before I predict anything. The motivation is there in any case to progress.

  • In view of this beginning of the year, we have the selection in the viewfinder?

May: The selection is still far and difficult. There are more and more girls playing and playing better and better. It's awesome.

But indeed, an additional selection in France team, and even more with Amelie, is a great challenge. We will train, have fun, send bricks and we'll see where it takes us.

Amélie: for now, these are the windows that I have in the viewfinder!
