The day after this 8e finals at the Master of Valladolid, the Franco-Spanish pair, Alix Collombon and Nicole Traviesa have confirmed that it was a pair to take very seriously. Opposed to one of the best world pairs, Mª José S. Alayeto and Delfina Brea Senesi, we were not far from attending the surprise of this tournament and perhaps even the beginning of the season.

Our French, Alix Collombon returns on her adventure on the professional circuit with her partner Nicole Traviesa.

  • One more game against the players of the top 10 / 15 world.

We are getting closer. Faced with the best players in the world, we feel we are not so far away.

In this 8e, we played against 2 regular players quarter and last square. And we were at one ball to win this second set. With Nicole, we are competitors, so it's normal that there is frustration.

But at the same time, it's only been a year and a half that I've been going through this adventure. There is still a 1 year, I took with my former teammate, Sara Pujals, severe defeats against the best. Things are changing.

it's been two games, now that we are performing well against the cream of the padel global. Not long ago, we bowed to the best players of the moment (Ortega / Marrero) 7/5 6/2. We would have signed for this score at the beginning of the year.

Yesterday, we lost in 2 sets hung against Alayeto / Brea, and with this famous set point in the second set on the opposing service. We were shy and we finally bow. But only positive, because it motivates us to continue working. We would have liked to look for this 3rd set ...

  • You have been playing with Nicole Traviesa since the beginning of the year. What is the difference with Sara Pujals (former partner)?

First, they are two very different players on and off the pitch. With Sara, we were very good off the field. With Nicole, the relationship is extremely good but it is different. Nicole is a little younger.

In the field, they have different qualities. Nicole certainly brings a volley and bandejas that can hurt opponents a lot. For a right-wing player, having such a regular partner on the left and so offensive is necessarily a very good thing for me.

After, it's not so easy to compare. Because my game has also evolved.

  • You consider yourself better than last year?

I think I am. And on the pitch, I think I'm on a good dynamic even if we now have to repeat these kinds of matches. Because doing it sometimes is one thing, but being competitive against the best each time is yet another milestone.

I have gained a lot of experience and I train a lot. I have a game that is both more calm, but also more ambitious. I can now stand up against the best players in the world. Even though I've been on the circuit for a short time, especially compared to all the players I see, my progress is constant. Obviously it boosts to continue and maybe try to bring down the best.

[box type = ”note” align = ”” class = ”” width = ””] Note that Sara Pujals, the former partner of Alix Collombon, passed behind her in the world ranking, since Alix is 29th player in the world and Sara 37th. Sara's partner is Ángela Caro Cantín. She is also behind Alix since she is the 31st player in the world. Alix's partner Nicole Traviesa is 36th. [/ Box]
