Alvaro Cepero has proven it in the past, he does not have his tongue in his pocket. His new rant is accompanied by a decision that is likely to make noise in the middle of the players: the Andalusian has indeed decided to leave the players' association (PPA) and to sign the new offer made to the players. speak World Padel Tour.

"The World Padel Tour is a serious circuit”

"I disagree with a lot of things in the way the players' association works," he told Radio Marca. “I think we can really do things differently and in a better way. […] I have been on the WPT circuit for eight years. It's a serious circuit. It's true that there are things they don't do well, but that's the case for everyone because no one is perfect. They have made efforts to improve conditions and financial endowments. »

The Spanish player also criticized that PPA, among the four circuit which made offers to the players, secretly made the choice of QSI (Qatar Sport Investment) and Premier Padel, without communicating the reasons for this choice because QSI asked to respect a confidentiality clause. More generally, Cepero denounces the lack of transparency within PPA and the way in which decisions are taken by a few player representatives, with consultation that he considers insufficient with the other players, in particular the lower ranked ones.

Eight hours by plane and six hours by car

Concerning Premier Padel, Cepero's opinion is nuanced: "The organization of the tournament in Egypt was bad," he says, referring to the fact that he had to play two matches in a row on the first day, when he had just traveled eight hours by plane from Mexico and six hours by car once in Egypt to reach the stadium. "I was exhausted," he said, "and when I pointed it out, I was blamed for playing a tournament in the World padel Tour in Mexico, while I was only respecting my contract".

On the other hand, the Andalusian has no complaints about the organization of the stages of Premier Padel in Monterrey (despite the bad luck of the rain) and in Milan.

After a complicated season, where he competed in both the WPT and Premier Padel, Alvaro Cepero, is the first professional player to announce his choice to favor the offer unveiled on October 18 by Alex Corretja but boycotted by most players. Cepero, 31, is currently 44th in the FIP ranking and 52nd in WPT ranking.
