Focus on Benjamin Tison. The best French left-hander, vice-champion of France in padel 2018, partner of Adrien Maigret. The Parisian got off to a great start with a 100% victory ratio in the P1000s. The Spanish air gives him ambitions. He tells us about his start to the season, his pluses and minuses and obviously his ambition.

  • Can we make a balance sheet on this first semester 2019 ...

Since the start of the year, with Adrien Maigret, we have had a good level of play in P1000 with in particular a great victory over Salines / Moreau. Overall, we achieved good performances. But it is true that today, the top players are concentrating on the new events set up by the FFT: The P2000s.

Since the beginning of P2000, the level is necessarily higher. All the best French players are present. There are no easy turns. It has become the unmissable event for French players to truly test themselves.

Au FFT Padel Tour of Valenciennes (at 4PADEL), we have a very good level of play. We made a big performance in the semi-final against Jérémy Scatena and Mark Bernils. 2 players who play together on the professional circuit of padel and who were in full swing at that time with good performance on the World Padel Tour.

But in the final we fall again on a huge Bastien Blanqué / Johan Bergeron. Small frustration on this final nevertheless, because we felt that we could do better in this final. It was less well negotiated a few hot moments of the match unlike Bergeron / Blanqué.

  • What is the game sector where you are most satisfied?

I'm really happy with my game as a whole. First, very positive point: Variation. It's a course that I'm going through varying more than before the type of balls: vary the effects, vary the speed of the ball, these are areas where I have clearly improved.

In Lyon, for example, I think we lose because I don't vary more often on my smash styles. It would certainly have been necessary to do more bandejaespecially because the terrain was slow. Our opponents have become too accustomed to our game.

We live a little delicate period at the moment with the lack of points for the WPT to return to the table, defeated in Lyon against Scat and Bernyls, But we feel that we are not far from passing a course. It's just that what we're doing is paying off.

  • In Lyon, defeat in the semifinals, how do you explain it?

This was our second semifinal in 2 stages against Scatena / Bernils. Despite our victory at Valenciennes, we knew that it was not going to be easy against the Franco-Spanish pair.

Unlike Valenciennes, we gave too much against Scatena / Bernils. And against this type of players, it does not forgive. After this stage of the team of France, we chained on this P2000 and we probably did not manage our best performances either in the semifinals or earlier in the event.

Too many faults and situations in defensive position to hope to go further in FFT Padel Tour from Lyon. The mistake I made in Lyon was trying to force through when he should have varied and broken the opposing dynamic, especially on this surface.

  • Le World Padel Tour, it's for when ? Do you know how you are going to organize yourself? who are you going to play with?

It was only a project for me, but the professional circuit of padel necessarily attracts. So I organized myself to try and play some stages of the World Padel Tour. At the moment, it is not easy. The level of preprevias is really high. There is no warm-up and the competition is fierce. We play players who have been in the circuit for years.

For now, I play with Bastien Blanqué, because with Adrien, we do not have enough points to enter the pre-qualifying table. I hope we will succeed with Bastien to get enough points to allow us to be independent for the future.

  • How are we succeeding in implementing this project?

Already I think it takes 30 years a little courage, because I leave to Mantes-la-Jolie, my heart club, my friends, my parents.

Then financially you have to find sponsors, which is not easy in the padel today.

As such I can already thank NOX my racquet and clothing sponsor, PRO GRH a company specializing in human resources and the company Aries Participations that helps me in my project.

  • Your evolution was very fast finally ...

I play padel for 3 years now, it is true that it has been quite fast. It must be said that I fell in love with this sport and that makes things easier.

If I had naturally offensive play, I feel much more comfortable defending now, and also tactically. That is why all the lights are on to allow me to go further.

We set up with Adrien, training sessions with Fabrice Ortiz every Tuesday. We are delighted with this collaboration. On Thursdays, we orient more towards training games and on weekends, padel most of the time.

  • What do you say to the tennis players who land in the padel ? Should we or should we not let this ball pass in the end?

Haha if you have a Maigret's hand in front of you. If you are a player like me, you have to accept to let the ball go and miss to learn.
