During the month of June, the Grand Est League organized its championships padel, qualifiers for the French championship. High point this weekend with the regional championships which will take place at 4Padel Strasbourg !

A look back at the departmental tournaments and an overview of the forces present on June 26 and 27 in order to secure the two qualifying places for the French championship.

A regional tournament + 3 qualifying phases

In order to reach as many players as possible, the Grand Est league has decided to organize its qualifying event for the French championships in two stages:

  • 3 qualifying phases (P250) in the 3 former territories that make up the region: Alsace, Champagne & Lorraine; kind of improved departmental championships
  • 1 regional grand final (P1000) bringing together the best players from the region

In what interest? Qualify directly the best pairs in the regional (12 for men and 4 for women), in order to leave more room for other players in the qualifying phases. And what a success! With 42 pairs men and 8 pairs women gathered on the sites of Reichstett, Saint-Dizier and Metz, the places for the grand final were severely contested!

Two qualified male teams for the region?

Before starting this weekend of competitions, one question remains unanswered: Will there be two men's teams from the GDE league at the French championship in September?

The question arises indeed! Because if on paper, each league is authorized to qualify a pair of women and a pair of men, in practice the situation is a little more complex.

With the holding of the European Championships, the FFT has in fact decided that the pairs made up of a player selected for the French team would be admitted directly to France. What about Jean-Thomas Peyrou (n ° 5), licensed at 4Padel Metz?

The answer should fall in the next few days!

Groll / Henry against Larose / Macchi, an inevitable duel?

Two tables will take place this weekend with a good number of classification matches to establish the regional hierarchy.

For women, 9 teams will meet on the starting line. Yes Julie Simon (n ° 61) & Morgane Zowczak (n ° 55) are favorites, they will have every interest in being wary of three pretenders to the throne. Ilona Gomez / Luna Gomez, Nathalie Alidor / Perrine Arnould and Clara Henry G./Magaly Schaffo will indeed want to thwart the predictions to afford a dream weekend in September.

On the men's side, a fierce fight is announced. 24 teams will indeed be on their toes and there could be some surprises from Saturday morning, because some novices (they were doing their 1st tournament) have already done “big damage” during the qualifying phases.

A final between Teri Groll (n ° 55) / Christophe Henry (n ° 76) and Maxime Larose (n ° 126) / Jérémy Macchi (n ° 109) is drawn on paper. But watch out for outsiders Muesser / Obert, Gomez / Schloesslin, Gongora / Ludwig and Casci / Heitz who will also have a chance to play.

Even though he discovered the padel about ten years ago in Italy, Vincent only devoted himself to it after too many “firsts” in tennis tournaments. Not much better at bandeja, he was retrained as referee, the only way to still be present at the time of the final! A lover of sport in general, this Norman expatriate in Alsace will try to make you live the news of the Padel in the “Great East”.
